Comedian Rob Delaney fired up a debate on homework this week – here’s a look back on what people had to say about it.

For many parents, getting their children to do homework can be a daily battle – but is it even that important?

The debate over how much work youngsters should be doing outside the classroom fired up again this week following a tweet from the US comedian and actor Rob Delaney.

Delaney, who stars in Channel 4 sitcom Catastrophe, garnered dozens of responses after he addressed the subject to his one-and-half million followers.

'Who knows more about stopping this madness?’

'Why do they give 7 yr olds so much homework in UK & how do I stop this,’ he wrote. ‘I want my kid frolicking and drawing and playing football. Who knows more about stopping this madness and can help me?’

He continued: 'Love our kids’ school and teachers (including heads) just sense they’re being told to “teach to the test” just like in America, where people are obviously stupid.’
