Roe vs Wade: ‘Adoption is not an alternative to abortion – my pregnancy was harrowing and I wanted my baby’
The argument that adoption renders abortion unnecessary was made by the US Supreme Court.

‘Pregnancy was a harrowing undertaking even though I wanted to have the baby,’ said one mother in response to the argument that women should put their newborn up for adoption rather than getting an abortion.
The argument is often made in pro-life circles in the US. In December last year, Supreme Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett – who is an adoptive mother herself – said that adoption renders abortion unnecessary as it protects women from ‘forced motherhood’.
The argument also appeared around halfway through the US Supreme Court’s 98-page draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito and published by Politico in May, which suggested the court would strike down the Roe v Wade ruling.
