In 2012/13 GamCare answered 16,168 calls from problem gamblers and people affected by gambling, an increase of 2.8% from the previous year. The number of people gambling online also increased, from 23% in 2011/12 to 26% in 2012/13.

Online gambling is currently the second most popular method across all age groups and experts believe that a rise in mobile technology, such as 3G and 4G, will only fuel its accessibility – especially among the young.

According to H2 Gambling Capital, the global GGY (gross gaming yield) for remote gambling in 2011 was £20.1 billion, a 10% increase on the previous year.
