Real terms decline in funding
The Department of Health’s latest surveys of investment in adult and older people’s mental health services cover services in England for the 2011/12 financial year. They underline the scale of the financial challenge currently facing mental health services.
The 2011/12 survey found investment in mental health services for adults of working age (aged 18–64) dropped by one per cent in real terms from the previous year. This was the first real terms drop in investment since the survey began in 2001/02. In cash terms, there was an increase of 1.2 per cent in 2011/12, to a total of £6.629 billion.
