Watch with mother? Not any more. Already this century, many developments have transformed the way we watch TV: bingeing on boxsets; the rise of streaming and catch-up services; the ability to watch programmes not just on that big box in the corner of the sitting room but on laptops, tablets, mobile phones and, no doubt soon, the inside of one’s eyelids.
Many now believe that modern technology has rendered the 9pm watershed meaningless and is making a mockery of TV’s increasingly redundant ratings system. So is the TV watershed about to experience, well, a watershed moment?
