Steve Hornblow sets out some of the thinking behind the initiatives deployed at the first phase of the NW Bicester development, ensuring homes meet true zero -carbon status.

NW Bicester is the UK’s first eco town that will create up to 6,000 new true zero-carbon homes; pioneering the highest standards in sustainable construction that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

2016 marked the delivery of 91 homes in phase one of the ‘Elmsbrook’ development at NW Bicester which, when complete, will comprise 393 highly energy efficient homes in total, and a local centre with 40% green space.

The new homes were launched in 2015 through the FABRICA by A2Dominion brand, with the initial residents moving in April 2016. Built with zero waste to landfill during construction, Elmsbrook is the first true zero-carbon development of its size in the UK and is one of only 16 communities worldwide to have been awarded Bioregional’s One Planet Community status.
