The owners of a fish and chip shop have closed it down after saying they had begun to feel uncomfortable about the environmental impact of their business.

Aatin and Helen Anadkat opened The Fish and The Chip restaurant in Leicester in 2017 in a bid to bring a modern twist to traditional fish suppers.

They served fish and chips cooked in rapeseed oil with a gluten-free batter as well as a range of dairy-free and vegan dishes.

But now the couple have decided to shut down the restaurant after spending months considering the business’s impact.

Declining fish numbers

In a sign posted in the restaurant’s window, they said: ‘We saw the impact pollution is having on the oceans and fish stocks and we are not comfortable running a restaurant that has an impact on our environment.

‘As a result, we have decided to close the restaurant.’
